There Are Monsters Outside for Schön! Magazine (2021)
In 'There Are Monsters Outside', viewers are drawn into a perplexing narrative set within the confines of a studio space. Against the backdrop of a meticulously arranged studio setup, complete with tripods and camera equipment, the film unfolds with a series of experimental and surreal vignettes.
Central to the narrative is the presence of a model, who carries a vintage television under her arm. This television serves as a curious element, offering a glimpse into an alternate reality where the model is also present within the studio, albeit in a captured form on the screen.
The juxtaposition of the model's physical presence with her televised counterpart creates an intriguing duality, blurring the lines between perception and reality. As the model interacts with her televised self, reaching out to touch hands in a surreal gesture of connection, audiences are compelled to question the nature of identity and existence.
Throughout the film, an unsettling soundtrack heightens the tension, hinting at deeper mysteries lurking beneath the surface. As the narrative reaches its climax, ominous black bars encroach upon the television screen, symbolizing a boundary that the model struggles to defy. Yet, as the image distorts into a chaotic flurry of static, viewers are left with a haunting image: the model standing alone beside the flickering television, bathed in an ominous crimson glow.
"There Are Monsters Outside" invites audiences on a mesmerizing journey into the unknown, where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur, leaving behind a lingering sense of unease and intrigue.
